Die INDACHS Kritik von Esther Kaufmann zu Pixars „Findet Dorie“

null

Lieber Johannes,

Esther

APD 2017 Receives Funding from Creative Europe MEDIA

Press Release, June 16, 2016

APD 2017 Receives Funding from Creative Europe MEDIA

Stuttgart — For its 2017 edition, the Animation Production Day receives funding from the Creative Europe MEDIA programme. The APD is the only new addition to the “Access to Markets” section from Germany. As such, it now plays in the premier league of European animation industry events. The APD has continued to grow over the past few years. Alongside representatives of the German industry, more and more international participants come to the APD to find German and international partners for their projects. This year, more than 140 producers, TV channels, distributors and investors from 18 countries negotiated possibilities for the co-production and funding of the 39 selected animation projects in more than 600 one-on-one meetings. Even though the projects presented at the APD are often at an early stage of their development, more than 30% of them are realised. Apart from the high success rate and the concept of the one-on-one meetings, participants value the proximity to the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) and the FMX, Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia. The 11th APD on May 4 and 5, 2017 will again take place as part of these two internationally renowned industry events.

The first partner of the APD 2017 is already on board: the Hamburg Animation Award. The Hamburg Animation Award is an international competition for young animation designers, organised by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce for the thirteenth time this year. The competition is aimed at students and young graduates of creative study courses from around the world. The best animated short films are nominated by a jury of fifteen experts and presented to invited industry representatives in the course of an awards ceremony on June 22. Five prizes with a total value of more than € 11,000 will be awarded to the winners. Because of the new cooperation, the winner of the Hamburg Animation Award will receive an accreditiation for the APD 2017 in addition to the prize money. The cooperation is supported by Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein.

About the Animation Production Day:
The Animation Production Day (APD) is a business platform for the international animation industry and takes place on the occasion of the 24th Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film and FMX 2017, Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia. It is organised by the Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH and Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg. APD brings together co-production, financing and distribution partners for animation projects in one-on-one meetings, and with the APD Conference offers focused discussions and presentations on current challenges facing the industry.

A list of the APD 2016 participants and projects is available at www.animationproductionday.de

BREAKING NEWS – ANNECY 2016/ Berliner Studio MOVIEBRATS verpflichtet PIXAR Regisseur fuer deutschen Feature Film „HUMP“

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former Pixar director J.G. to helm 3D animated feature film HUMP for MovieBrats

ANNECY (France), June 16, 2016 — Berlin-based production house MovieBrats Pictures lands at this year’s Festival de Annecy/MIFA with the announcement that its 3D animated desert adventure HUMP will be directed by former Pixar director J.G. from a script by Sundance Film Festival Award winner director Amin Matalqa and Matthew Antonelli.

HUMP tells the adventurous story of a clumsy camel, Rami, who sets out on an epic journey to find his best friend, a Bedouin boy named Omar. Joined by a cunning desert fox claiming to be a prince and a mistrusting goat, the trio must endure each other’s company while crossing the harsh Arabian desert, where dangers loom around every corner.

HUMP_Artwork

„It’s a great script about a journey of characters stuck together across the expansive desert
with wonderful emotional bonds that any audience can relate to. The touching ending is so
satisfying you’ll want to see it again and again,“ says J.G.
„We are very thrilled to have J.G. at the helm. With his longstanding experience in universal
storytelling he is the right one to make sure that audiences around the globe respond equally
to the adventure of Rami and his friends,“ adds producer Alexander Weimer.
Co-writer Matalqa says of the inspiration to write HUMP: „In a time where the world has
grown to perceive the Middle East as a culture of anger, hate, and violence, I’ve strived to
use the medium of animated film to show the gentle human side of that world where I grew
up, and create cultural bridges between East and West. The power of entertainment through
animation couldn’t be more timely.“
The project is currently in development with production set to start in spring 2017. It is
produced by MovieBrats Pictures‘ Alexander Weimer and Esther Friedrich with Amin Matalqa
and former Pixar story manager Ryan Lynch (Brave) and in co-production with Belgiumbased
animation studio Walking The Dog. Grammy-nominated/BAFTA-winning composer
Austin Wintory is providing the songs and score. HUMP was first presented in 2015 at
Cartoon Movie in Lyon.
Director J.G. started out at Disney with story and writing duties on such classics as
Pocahontas and Fantasia 2000, before he went on to work for Pixar Animation Studios
where he was a story artist on Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo and Up, among
others. He went into directing with the Cars tie-in short Tokyo Mater and later directed and
co-directed numerous episodes of the Pixar-produced tv shows Mater’s Tall Tales and
Tales From Radiator Springs. HUMP will mark his feature directing debut.
Co-writer and producer Amin Matalqa is the writer-director behind Sundance Audience
Award winning live action feature Captain Abu Raed. Matalqa went on to direct The United
for Walt Disney Pictures and just recently finished his fourth feature film as director, The
Rendezvous, starring Stana Katic (from ABC’s The Castle), set for a US release later this
year.
MovieBrats Pictures‘ previous and current titles include the German-language mystery thriller
Lost Place 3D (released locally by NFP/Warner) and the Russian-French-German coproduction
of the supernatural drama Zoology that will have its international premiere at
Karlovy Vary Film Festival in July. Other current international projects include the horror
thriller Dark Compass and the Chinese animated feature The Dumpling Queen.
MovieBrats Pictures is headquartered in Berlin where it also runs an affiliate animation and
visual effects house, MovieBrats Studios.

„Zac & Zoé“, a cheeky polar fox and a cute owl, set out to discover the world of real animals. While encountering animals living out in the wild, the pair is in constant contact with Frida, the 8-year-old daughter of a polar scientist whose research areas include climate change, nature and animals. The juxtaposition of live-action nature documentaries and cartoons makes animated characters stand out within the live-action material as they merge with the natural environment and even interact with real animals. While chirldren enjoy the stories, an astonishing selection of naturefilms, and Zac & Zoé’s funny problems with the wild, their thirst for knowledge is stimulated and rewarded.
