EXTENDED DEADLINE: ANIMATED COM AWARD INTERNATIONAL
Competition for applied animation in the field of advertising

Dear advertising filmmakers, producers, agencies and friends of animated film,

until February 15, 2018 filmmakers, production companies, agencies and clients from Germany and all over the world are invited to submit their animated advertising spots for the Animated Com Award International. The Award for the best applied animation in the field of advertising in the amount of 2,500 EUR is sponsored by the Animation Media Cluster Region Stuttgart. More information to regulations and registration can be found here.

The prize Animated Com Award International is awarded within the Trickstar Business Award Gala and offers participants intensive networking opportunities with filmmakers, animation artists, production companies, financing partners, agencies and clients.

The 25th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film is going to take place from April 24 to 29, 2018. It is one of the most outstanding events for animated film worldwide. Like last year, the ITFS will cooperate with spotlight, the most important festival for moving image communication in the German-speaking area. True to their Motto „Connexion“, spotlight and ITFS link the advertising industry with the animation scene.

Cloud computing is playing a key role in character rendering and modeling processes as cloud based rendering of animation films is more effective and efficient as it reduces the time and cost compared to traditional rendering.

Cloud Gaming services which are growing at an exponential pace would need the right pricing model to both drive adoption and generate sufficient returns for platforms and publishers. The availability of low cost micro-payment systems is allowing users to pay for access or download small quantities of digital content and is the key for online games market to grow. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning based techniques are being used for in-game analytics, customer acquisition, retention, cross sell, churn, classify player behavior etc.

Popular eSports tournaments have rich spectator interactions and immersive fan experiences for in-person and online viewers. As a Talent Development Intern, you will have a unique opportunity to work with Disney mentors as you explore various aspects of our character and environmental process. This immersive program offers hands-on experience focused on multidisciplinary learning and team collaboration.

The 2018 Summer Intern Program will be held at our Burbank, CA studio starting June 2018. To be eligible for the Walt Disney Animation Studios internship, you must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student who will return to school in the fall of 2018.

Requirements

  • Interest in Visual Development OR CG Art Departments such as Modeling, Look Development, Layout, Animation, Effects, Lighting. Multiple disciplines a plus
  • Working knowledge/understanding of CG software such as Maya, ZBrush, Houdini, StudioPaint, Painter, Renderman, or Photoshop
  • A reel demonstrating your experience and interests in the CG arts
  • Strong eye for visual appeal required
  • Problem solving skills
  • Background in art, animation, or filmmaking a plus
  • Scripting (MEL, PERL, CSH) a plus
  • Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student returning to school in the fall

Cartoon Movie is neither a fair nor a festival, but rather a pitching & co-pro forum for animated feature films.
For two days, producers have the opportunity to pitch their film project in order to speed up financing, find co-producers and interest international distributors.

3 stages of project presentation

A special feature of Cartoon Movie is that it is possible to present projects at their different stages:

  • projects in concept
  • projects in development
  • films in production

Therefore the whole industrial network can take part in the development of the film, which increases tenfold the producer’s chances

30 minutes to convince the buyers

The pitching sessions are the core element of Cartoon Movie. Participants have to choose between 2 rooms where projects are pitched by the whole production and artistic team, from 10 minutes for projects in concept up to 30 minutes for projects in development or films in production.

To start the day, the screening of trailers in front of all participants during the traditional breakfast «Croissant & Coffee Shows» gives a taste of the project and encourages people to attend the pitching sessions.

MPSE Announces Golden Reel Awards Nominees

The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) announced nominees for the 65th MPSE Golden Reel Awards. Nominees represent the work of the world’s most talented sound artists and their contributions to the past year’s most outstanding feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment productions.

“This has been an outstanding year in entertainment sound,” said MPSE president Tom McCarthy. “Sound artists have crafted brilliant soundscapes for movies, television, games and other media. The Motion Picture Sound Editors extends its congratulations to this year’s Golden Reel Award nominees for their wonderful contributions to the art of sound.”

“Blade Runner 2049” (Dennis Gassner), “The Shape of Water” (Paul Denham Austerberry), “Coco” (Harley Jessup), and “Logan” (Francois Audouy), won Best ProductionDesign for Feature Film.
Television winners included “The Handmaid’s Tale” (Julie Berghoff), “Portlandia” (Schuyler Telleen), “Will & Grace” (Glenda Rovella), “Black Mirror” (Joel Collins, Phil Sims), and “Game of Thrones” (Deborah Riley) “Glow”(Todd Fjelsted), and “Star Wars Battlefront II: Rivalry/PS4” (Jason Edmonds), respectively.
The awards took place before an audience of more than 1,000, including guild members, industry executivesand press.
