Prof. Isabel Herguera schreibt zu ihrem neuen Film: ‚Sultana’s Dream‘ is a book that fell into my hands while I was sheltering from the rain in a bookstore in India. The cover depicted two women piloting a retro-futuristic helicopter. I turned the book around and read about Ladyland, a place where women are in command of politics and sciences, and men stay at home and take care of the domestic chores. The story was written in 1905 by Begum Rokeya Hossein, a Muslim woman who grew up in a very traditional household where women lived in confinement and without access to a formal education. This ironic tale of a feminist utopia was written more than a century ago, and yet the desire of women to feel safe and in command of their lives felt very contemporary. Before I finished reading it, I knew this was a film I wanted to make.“
The programme
Blindman’s Bluff, 2005, 7 min
A blind man accidentally loses his guide-dog. Alone in the dark in a big city, he discovers that his strength lies in recognising his own vulnerability.
Ámár, 2010, 8 min (Spanish with English Subtitles)
Inés travels to India to visit her friend Ámár, who has been living in a mental institution for years. Inés remembers the last days they spent together and her promise to return.
Under the Pillow, 2012, 8 min (in English)
The guitar, the dances, a trip out to sea, the cats Sweety and Kitty, and the sisters who look after them are just some of the treasures and dreams which the children keep hidden under the pillow.
Sultana’s Dream (work in progress), feature animation film, 72 min  (excerpts & making of)
In the year 1905 the Bengali writer Rokeya Hossein dreamed of Ladyland, a utopic land governed by women.  More than a century later, a young Spanish artist unable to dream decides to set off on a journey of self-discovery following the traces of Rokeya and looking for Ladyland.
