It is with immense pleasure that the Annecy Festival pays tribute to an animation genius, Barry J.C. Purves! This exceptional talent, creator of stop-motion masterpieces, shattered taboos and opened up new perspectives in the animation universe by tackling important themes on homosexuality. Among his most acclaimed creations are Screen Play or Achilles, which won multiple awards.
As well as receiving the Honorary Cristal, Barry Purves will be presenting a Masterclass called „The Revealing Mask“. This unique opportunity will see the director share his thoughts and experiences on how animation can be used to represent and celebrate LGBTQ+ identities.
The Annecy Festival is proud to pay tribute to this animation legend. Bary J.C. Purves continues to inspire and contribute to the development of animated art and this accolade is a testament to his outstanding contribution.

Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH (FMF), which primarily organises the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS), has staff news: Heike Mozer will take over the commercial management as of 1 June 2023. She succeeds Uwe Schmitz-Gielsdorf, who has been managing FMF on an interim basis since October 2022.
„In Heike Mozer, we have found a competent managing director for Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH who, thanks to her expertise and many years of experience, is perfectly familiar with the animation and culture scenes in the region. I am certain that she will fill the motto ‚We are the heart of animation, where public and creators meet‘ with life and thus further strengthen the ITFS in the future,“ says Dr. Walter Rogg, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH and Managing Director of Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart GmbH (WRS).
Heike Mozer has a degree in administration and has been working at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg since 1991, where she took over the commercial management of Animationsinstitut in 2002. At the same time, she contributed to the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film in the field of event management from 1991 to 1998 and was project manager of FMX – Film & Media Exchange between 2015 and 2020. She is thus experienced in the realisation of large-scale events and very well-connected in the regional, national, and international animation scenes.
„To welcome the world of animated film in all its facets and to create personal encounters between audiences and artists – that is what I am looking forward to. With the competent team at my side, I am also looking forward to further develop the ITFS and guide it into the future,“ says Mozer.

Bei der Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH (FMF), die vor allem das Internationale Trickfilm-Festival Stuttgart (ITFS) veranstaltet, gibt es personelle Neuigkeiten: Heike Mozer übernimmt ab 1. Juni 2023 die kaufmännische Geschäftsführung. Sie folgt damit auf Uwe Schmitz-Gielsdorf, der seit Oktober 2022 interimsweise die FMF geleitet hat.
„Mit Heike Mozer haben wir eine kompetente Geschäftsführerin für die Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH bekommen, die aufgrund ihrer Expertise und langjährigen Erfahrung mit der Animations- und Kulturlandschaft der Region bestens vertraut ist. Heike Mozer ist gelernte Diplomverwaltungswirtin und arbeitete seit 1991 an der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, wo sie 2002 die kaufmännische Leitung des Animationsinstituts übernommen hat. Gleichzeitig wirkte sie am Internationalen Trickfilm-Festival Stuttgart im Bereich Eventmanagement von 1991 bis 1998 mit und war zwischen 2015 und 2020 Projektleiterin der FMX – Film & Media Exchange. Sie kennt sich somit mit der Realisierung von Großevents aus und ist sehr gut vernetzt in der regionalen, nationalen und internationalen Animationslandschaft.

Ein Oscar-Preisträger lernt Laufen — Trickfilm-Show mit Thomas Stellmach, Kassel
Oscar-Preisträger Thomas Stellmach präsentiert seine international preisgekrönten Animationsfilme und gibt einen spannenden und unterhaltsamen Einblick in die Produktionsprozesse der Filme. Er erzählt über das aufregende Leben eines Trickfilmkünstlers, spricht über seine Inspiration, über wichtige Stationen seiner Karriere und über seine Pläne in der Zukunft. Er erklärt die Tricks und die Techniken, mit denen die Filme gemacht wurden. Es werden Geschichten rund um die Filme, z.B. über die Oscar-Verleihung in Hollywood 1997 erzählt. Anhand von Zahlen und Fakten vermittelt Thomas Stellmach den Aufwand der Produktionen und geht auf die Herausforderungen ein, die diese Kunstform mit sich bringt. Das Filmprogramm wird durch Fotomaterial und Making-of-Filme ergänzt.
Thomas Stellmach studierte Animation bei dem Trickfilmkünstler Paul Driessen an der Kunsthochschule Kassel. Nach seinem Hochschulabschluss 1999 gründete er mit zwei Partnern das Trickstudio Lichthof Film & Animation in Kassel und produzierte bis 2008 animierte Werbespots. 2009 löste er sich von der Firma und konzentrierte sich auf seine freien künstlerischen Projekte. Er erhielt für seine Independent-Produktionen mehr als 100 internationale Auszeichnungen. 120 Min.

We’re thrilled to announce that we have signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group for two projects in development. The first one is Bad Fairies, a subversive musical comedy set in contemporary London. Deborah Frances-White is writing the screenplay, and Megan Nicole Dong is attached to direct.
The second project is The Lunar Chronicles, based on Marissa Meyer’s bestselling novels. Kalen Egan & Travis Sentell are attached to write, and Noëlle Raffaele is attached to helm.

Les événements dramatiques survenus hier ont touché les Annéciens au plus profond d’eux-mêmes, la France et par-delà nos frontières.
Il est désormais avéré qu’il s’agit d’un acte isolé.
Aussi, en concertation avec les autorités et comme cela a été indiqué par le Maire François Astorg, le Festival ouvrira le dimanche 11 juin.
Cependant la direction et l’équipe du Festival, en signe de soutien aux familles et aux victimes, ont décidé de reporter le lancement des séances en plein air au lundi 12 juin.
Les projections du Festival seront placées sous le signe des valeurs qu’il a toujours défendues : le partage, la solidarité et la fraternité.
Le président de CITIA Dominique Puthod, son directeur Mickaël Marin, son délégué artistique Marcel Jean et toute l’équipe du Festival et du Marché international du film d’animation.
The people of Annecy, France, and farther afield, have all been shaken to the core by yesterday’s tragic events.
It has now been established that this was an isolated act.
In consultation with the authorities and as specified by Mayor François Astorg, the Festival will be opening on Sunday 11th June.
However, as a gesture of support to the families and victims, the Festival management and team have decided to postpone the open-air screenings until Monday 12th June.
The Festival screenings will reflect the values that they have always endorsed: sharing, solidarity and fraternity.

The Aardman Academy has launched a brand new 28-week course, giving participants from across the globe the opportunity to train in-person and on-site at our renowned film studios in Bristol, UK.
In-Studio Stop Motion will be taught and staffed entirely by leading Aardman talent and creatives. An industry alternative to a MA, the course will provide animators with teaching, mentorship and support throughout the fundamental stages of short film development and production as filmmakers work on their own short film idea from concept right through to final realisation.
