The European Audiovisual Observatory is back in Cannes with the second edition of our successful FOCUS presentation and conversation round! This informal session, co-hosted by the Marché de film, is designed as an “all you need to know” event in a short 45-minute format. Gilles Fontaine, Head of the Observatory’s’ Department for Market Information, Deputy Head Martin Kanzler and cinema Analyst Patrizia Simone will talk trends with Beatriz Navas, General director of the Spanish national cinema institute, the ICAA. Join us to explore the latest tendencies in cinema going, film production and distribution. We’ll be looking at the current recovery processes in European and world cinema with a special focus on Spain (this year’s country of honour in Cannes).

CINANIMA 2022 | Cheng-Hsu Chung Interview
In last year’s edition of CINANIMA, we had the opportunity to interview Cheng-Hsu Chung, a Taiwanese animation director and visual artist currently working and living in Berlin, Germany. Chung’s artistic practice focuses on using surreal images and character performances in animation to articulate the changing nature of emotion, modern love relationships and the experiences queer bodies encounter in today’s queer culture. München, 19. Mai 2023 – Disney+ hat bekannt gegeben, dass die 11. Staffel der beliebten Animationsserie „Futurama“ von Matt Groening und David X. Cohen am Montag, den 24. Juli in Deutschland mit wöchentlich neuen Episoden auf Disney+ Streaming-Premiere feiern wird.
Mit kompletter Originalbesetzung und absolut intaktem satirischen Witz ist „Futurama“ nach einer kurzen zehnjährigen Pause triumphierend aus der Kälteschlaf-Röhre gekrochen. Die zehn brandneuen Episoden von Staffel 11 haben für jeden etwas zu bieten: Neue Zuschauer können einfach direkt in die Serie einsteigen und langjährige Fans werden die Auflösung zu jahrzehntelang währenden Rätseln erkennen – darunter Entwicklungen in der epischen Liebesgeschichte zwischen Fry und Leela, der mysteriöse Inhalt von Nibblers Katzenklo, die geheime Geschichte des bösen Roboter-Weihnachtsmanns und der Verbleib von Kifs und Amys Kaulquappen. Obwohl die Serie weit in der Zukunft spielt, ist sie für ihren satirischen Kommentar zum gegenwärtigen Leben bekannt. Die Serie folgt Phillip J. Fry (Billy West), einem Pizzaboten aus New York City, der sich im Jahr 1999 versehentlich einfriert und im Jahr 3000 wieder aufgetaut wird. In diesem erstaunlichen „neuen“ New York freundet er sich mit dem trinkfesten Roboter Bender (John DiMaggio) an und verliebt sich in die Zyklopin Leela (Katey Sagal). Nun, nach einer kurzen zehnjährigen Pause in der Kryokammer taucht „Futurama“ glorios als Streaming-Serie für Hulu mit 20 bestellten Episoden auf, die im Jahr 2023 starten sollen.

To travel through the history of animation film and its fascinating universe, re-watch the classics or discover some animation gems: a programme that brushes away the cobwebs from its heritage!
This year’s line-up, in particular includes:
Rintarō with Galaxy Express 999, Time Masters by René Laloux and Theodore Ushev: Unseen Connections by Borislav Kolev.
An exhibition at the Musée-Château will also be dedicated to Ushev: “Theodore Ushev, Mind and Matter”.
Midnight Specials
Exempt from rules and decorum, these screenings are not recommended for the light-hearted (unsuitable for under 16s) and give centre stage to insolence, irreverence and brazenness, and can sometimes be a tad racy! And, as the climax, the glorious WTF programme!
