Stuttgart/Germany, November 12, 2024. Change can appear to be overwhelming – like the transition the creative industries are currently going through. One of the driving forces of this is the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
With next year’s theme RHYTHM OF CHANGE, FMX adresses the situation, offering a platform for the community to discuss ways to navigate the transformation.
We are very happy to announce that industry legend Paul Debevec („Matrix“, „Avatar“, „Gravity“) will be the Program Chair of FMX 2025. He has joined the team of FMX curators putting together a first-rate program, dedicated to the latest in Animation, Visual Effects, Interactive and Immersive Media.
Following four days On Site from May 6 to 9 2025, FMX will offer numerous presentations by the international speakers On Demand from May 10 to June 10.

The media landscape is changing. Shifting business models, consolidations and rapid developments in Artificial Intelligence are shaking the foundations of the industry.
Finding our rhythm in the midst of change can be a real challenge. What remains constant is the need for human perception, judgement, communication, and the making of creative choices.
How can we ensure that production technologies enhance and support the goals and intentions of the creators who keep us human and connected through their art?
From education to creation, production to distribution, FMX 2025 will offer insights and inspiration on how to navigate the obstacles and shape the opportunities before us.

Paul Debevec received degrees in Computer Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1992 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1996.
He is the Chief Research Officer at Netflix’s Eyeline Studios in Los Angeles, overseeing R&D for visual effects and virtual production with computer vision, graphics, and machine learning. In 2002, Paul’s Light Stage 3 system pioneered the virtual production technique of surrounding actors with color LEDs to display images of virtual environments for lighting-accurate compositing.
Paul’s techniques for photogrammetry, HDR imaging, image-based lighting, and photoreal digital actors have been used to create key visual effects sequences in „Matrix“, „Spider-Man 2“, „Benjamin Button“, „Avatar“, „Gravity“, „Oblivion“, „Maleficent“, „Furious 7“, „Blade Runner: 2049“, „Gemini Man“, „Free Guy“, and numerous video games.
Paul’s work in technology for visual effects and virtual production has been recognized with two Academy Awards for Scientific and Technical Achievement, the Progress Medal from the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, and in 2022, the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award.
Paul is a Governor of the Visual Effects Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the Visual Effects Society, and an Adjunct Research Professor at the University of Southern California.
„We are honoured that the Master of Light himself, Dr Paul Debevec, has agreed to be our Program Chair for FMX 2025. He has been instrumental in creating an entire discipline of image capture and image making, with rigorous and wide-ranging applications throughout Visual Effects, Virtual Production and beyond. Paul’s network spans academia and industry at the highest level and we are excited to have his invaluable guidance. On top of that, he’s a really nice guy!“
Dr Jan Pinkava, FMX Conference Chair

Established and up and coming studios scout and reach out to talent in the Recruiting Hub, film and media schools from around the globe present themselves in the School Campus.
The FMX team is thrilled to work with Paul Debevec – and that’s just the beginning.
We hope to see you there!
Stuttgart, 12. November 2024.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), Wicked is the first chapter of a two-part immersive, cultural celebration. Wicked Part Two is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 26, 2025.
Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart. The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads, and their lives take very different paths. Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The film also stars Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz. The cast of characters includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots); a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) and four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as the voice of Dr. Dillamond.
Wicked is produced by Marc Platt (La La Land, The Little Mermaid), whose films, television shows and stage productions have earned a combined 46 Oscar® nominations, 58 Emmy nominations and 36 Tony nominations, and by multiple Tony winner David Stone (Kimberly Akimbo, Next to Normal), with whom Platt produced the blockbuster Wicked stage musical. The executive producers are David Nicksay, Stephen Schwartz and Jared LeBoff. Based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is adapted for the screen by the stage production’s book writer Winnie Holzman and by legendary Grammy and Oscar® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The Broadway stage musical is produced by Universal Stage Productions, Marc Platt, the Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to reach out to you all because Studio Soi is currently looking for some 3D Animation Supervisors to help guide our animation teams on a couple of projects. We are currently in production on two TV shows and we are in pre-production on a Feature Film. So if anyone out there knows of someone who might be a good fit, please let them know and ask them to reach out to me via Linkedin or email (michaelhockey@studiosoi.de) or they can send an email directly to work@studiosoi.de
Some extra info that will probably be helpful:
– The positions are on-site in Ludwigsburg, Germany, so permission to work in the EU is essential
– Animation is done in Maya
– The style for all projects is cartoony and on 2s
Thanks!
