Trickfilme für Erwachsene gibt es eher selten, doch genau darauf liegt der Schwerpunkt des Gelnhäuser Trickfilmers Jürgen Kling der seit über 20 Jahren im eigenen Trickfilmstudio kreativ tätig ist. Klings letzer Film „Crappy Christmas – Operation Christmas Child“, lief bisher auf 35 internationalen Festivals, dort hat der Horror-Cartoon gerade seinen 19. Preis abgeräumt. Weiterhin ist der Film Teil der Deathcember Anthology, die in Europa, USA und Kanada auf DVD und Bluray erhältlich ist und weltweit als Stream über alle bekannten Anbieter abgerufen werden kann.
Nun steht das Team des Stop-Motion-Studios aus dem Raum Frankfurt mit dem Nachfolger „Crappy Christmas – Yuletide Suicide“ in den Startlöchern. Wie bereits im Vorgängerfilm „Crappy Christmas – Operation Christmas Child“ bricht der Film mit den Sehgewohnheiten des Mainstream Kinos indem er die eher niedliche Knetanimation Optik, die der Zuschauer weiterhin primär dem Kinderprogramm oder familienfreundlichem Unterhaltungskino zuordnet, in Kontrast mit heftigen, oft tabuisierten, Themen setzt. Diesmal geht es um Depression, Suizid und Polizeigewalt. In „Crappy Christmas: Yuletide – Suicide“ unternimmt Protagonist Kid mehrere (erfolglose) Suizidversuche, dabei hinterlässt er eine Spur der Verwüstung an sich und seiner Umwelt.
Zuletzt setzt Kid seine ganze Hoffnung in einen Brief an den Weihnachtsmann.
Klings Konzept konnte überzeugen: Die Entwicklung des neuen Projekts wurde mit 3 Stipendien der Hessischen Kulturstiftung und der Stiftung Kulturwerk der VG Bildkunst unterstützt. Das Projekt ist bereits recht weit fortgeschritten.
Der Großteil der 14 Charaktere ist hergestellt, das Haupt-Set ist fast fertig. Bis zum Jahresende sollen die Vorbereitungen abgeschlossen werden damit 2024 der 5-8 monatige Dreh beginnen kann.
Eine beantragte Produktionsförderung wurde von der hessischen Filmförderung Hessenfilm abgelehnt.
Jedoch konnte das Konzept die Jury der Stiftung KULTURMUT überzeugen. Diese unterstützt das vom 1.10.23- 1.11.23 laufende Crowdfunding auf STARTNEXT https://www.startnext.com/crappy-christmas. Beim Crowdfunding bieten Künstler Werke oder andere Dankeschöns zum Verkauf / Tausch gegen Spenden an, um so Ihre Projekte zu finanzieren. Für jeden über das Crowdfunding eingenommenen Euro gibt Kulturmur 50 Cent dazu. Als Dankeschön gibt es unter anderem Karten zur Premiere, einen Download des Films, einen Comic, aber auch sehr aussergewöhnliche Dinge wie das Mitwirken eines Unerstützers als Knetfigur im Film. Hierzu wird anhand von Fotos der Unterstützer als Knetfigur gebaut und im Film animiert. Anschliessend bekommt der Unterstützer die Figur zugeschickt. Der Fortschritt der Produktion wird auf den Facebook und Instagram Kanälen von Weirdoughmationfilms dokumentiert.
