Täglich einen Kurzen: „The Little Poet“ by Justine King 🖼️ (CalArts Film 2023)

“I wish I lived in a painting so I could sketch all the little details of the place she lives in. There’s always a baby goose that she’s holding. I wonder what is the name she will be naming. I wish, I wish I lived in a painting.”

My third-year film at CalArts! So grateful and honored to be winning the Walter and Gracie Lantz Animation Prize this year!! 😀

First time making a BTS video I hope it is helpful 🙂

Toon Boom Animation: Portfolio Practice Scenes: Collaboratory with Mike Morris and Special Guest Rachel Holiday

Storyboard artist Mike Morris joins us once again for Collaboratory with special guest Rachel Holiday.

Our mission: Work with the audience to improvise something outrageous and learn about the craft of storyboarding along the way. What we need from you: 1️⃣ Characters 2️⃣ Setting 3️⃣ Conflict

Story artist Mike Morris has had a career that’s been… well, storied. Having spent most of his youth in California, it was a quick move for him to Los Angeles. In the City of Angels, he has developed a thriving career and is best known for his work on television series.

You can find an interview with Mike Morris on our blog: https://www.toonboom.com/why-mike-mor…

Rachel Holiday is a graduate of Savannah College Art and Design’s undergraduate animation program. Her passion is 3D Layout and Previsualization because of the influence the role has on visual storytelling throughout the film creation process. She finds it fascinating how a character’s personality and internal goals impact a story; and, how this challenge is conquered when a Layout artist starts setting up shots for a film sequence by focusing on camera set up and editing choices. Rachel has worked on multiple projects for Rooster Teeth Productions, including: RWBY volume 8, RWBY Volume 9, RWBY ArrowFell (game cinematics), and RWBY x Justice League: Heroes and Huntsmen Part 1 / Part 2.

CNN: Hollywood’s Strike Season is Ripe for Adaptation

Thousands of Hollywood actors and writers have been on strike for weeks demanding raises, regulation of artificial intelligence, and residuals from content created for streaming services. Meanwhile, thousands of hotel workers and public sector employees in Los Angeles have also staged work stoppages as they push for better wages. However, this uptick in labor unrest goes well beyond California. In today’s episode, we look at what’s driving a surge in union membership across the country and look at how presidential politics could play a role in a potential autoworkers strike.

Black holes can destroy everything – but can they be destroyed? What happens if we push physics to the absolute limits, maybe even break it and the universe in the process? Let’s create a tiny black hole, about the mass of our moon, in the Kurzgesagt Labs and try to rip it apart.

Based on Legendary’s Monsterverse, the new series premiering on Apple TV+ stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski

Today, Apple TV+ announced the title of its highly anticipated sci-fi drama based on Legendary’s Monsterverse as “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” and unveiled the first images from the 10-episode series starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski.

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

„Monarch: Legacy of Monsters“ is co-developed by Chris Black („Severance,“ „Star Trek: Enterprise,“ „Outcast,“) and Matt Fraction („Hawkeye”). Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”) directs the first two episodes.

Hailing from Legendary Television, the series is executive produced by Black, Fraction and Shakman alongside Joby Harold (“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”) and Tory Tunnell (“Spinning Out,” “Underground”) from Safehouse Pictures, Shakman („Wandavision“), Andy Goddard („Carnival Row, „Downton Abbey“), Brad Van Arragon („Yellowjackets, „Carnival Row“) and Andrew Colville (“Severance,” “Star Trek: Discovery”). Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character. Ludwigsburg: Studio SOI sucht: The Amazing World of Gumball needs previz / layout artists

We are looking for previz artists, experienced in After Effects as well as Maya, to work with us on-site in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

https://www.studiosoi.de/

On the Amazing World of Gumball, layout is the step that takes existing storyboards and translates them into After Effect and Maya scenes that Scene Build (2D and 3D) can work with.
The focus is on setting the scene e.g. positioning the camera, objects and characters as well as deciding timing, and animating the camera.

Communication
Layout artists are the link between direction, storyboarding, production and all subsequent departments like prop design, 2D animation, 3D animation, 3D build, and compositing. Layout artists need to know the specific requirements and constraints for each department. They also have to be aware of schedule, budget and pipeline. Flagging problems early on and developing solutions in consultation with other departments is key. Therefore, all candidates need strong communication skills and fluent English (both written and spoken).

Direction, timing, camera
The Amazing World of Gumball is a show that uses mise-en-scène and editing from various film genres. Hence, layout artists are required to have knowledge of cinematographic storytelling. An understanding and sense of timing, framing, camera angles and movement to convey tension and emotions is crucial.

Software
We are looking for candidates who know how to use After Effects as well as Maya. Layout artists will work in sequences and should be able to set up scenes in both 2D and 3D.

General Conditions
We are offering a full-time job (Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day), for a fixed term of approx.13 months, starting in August / September 2023 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. In this role, remote work will not be possible.

Studio Soi
We are an animation studio working in various media, mainly for children’s and young adult shows. In the past 20 years, our productions have won worldwide acclaim and numerous international awards. We have been part of The Amazing World of Gumball from its beginning, and are looking forward to beginning the 7th season this year.

Our studio has a long tradition of working with international teams, so knowledge of the German language is not required for the job. We are looking forward to welcoming new artists to our studio in Ludwigsburg, a hub for animation in Germany and a great location for building a network in the industry.

Please apply by email (subject line: layout GB) with a link to your work samples and a short CV to:
work@studiosoi.de

All applicants must have existing and up-to-date permission to work within the European Union. If you are applying from outside the EU, please provide valid evidence of permission to work in the EU. Otherwise, your application won’t be considered.
