Disney Artist Floyd Norman speaks at ArtCenter

On November 21st, 2016, Alumnus Floyd Norman presented his life and work in Michael Dooley’s “Design History of Comics & Animation” class. Back in the mid-1950s, Floyd was the first black animator ever to be hired by Disney. His cartooning career spans 60 years… and counting. He’s still working today, at age 81. And he shared a lifetime of stories with us. Floyd has worked on Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, Jungle Book, 101 Dalmations, Sesame Street, Scooby-Doo, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Robot Chicken, and many other important animated films.

Floyd is also currently featured in the just-released documentary, “Floyd Norman: An Animated Life”
