Dear friends,
Those of you wishing to have their film screened in CINANIMA, still have a chance of submitting it for selection. The 41st edition of our Festival will be an intense one, both for audience and professionals, bearing in mind the dialogue and the sharing experiences in the field of animated filmmaking. Besides our regular competition programmes, masterclasses, workshops and retrospectives, we have been putting together, for some time, special thematic nights for general audiences, as well as creative and challenging selections for children, during the day.
Here are the six competition categories for submitting short or feature animated films produced after the 1st January 2016:
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION SHORT FILMS
• A – up to five minutes;
• B – more than 5 up to 24 minutes;
• C – more than 24 up t0 50 minutes;
• E – Commissioned Films – Commercials and Information;
• F – Animated Documentary.
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FEATURE FILMS – Films with more than 50 minutes.
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION SCHOOL FILMS AND/ OR GRADUATION FILMS – This category will have a separate Jury for the first time.
NATIONAL COMPETITION
• ANTÓNIO GAIO Award – Best Film in the National Competition;
• BEST YOUNG PORTUGUESE DIRECTOR Award:
− Films directed by Children and Youngsters (until the age of 18);
− First films directed by Young Directors (more than 18 up to 30 years old).

The 41st edition will take place in November, as usual, and the deadline for submission is the 1st July 2017.
The winners will receive trophies, while the Grand Prize of the Festival can be on the shortlist for the annual Cartoon d’Or Award (the best European cartoon short) and also for the Animated Short Film Category of the Academy Awards®.
