Köln, 19.-21. November: 10th Clash of Realities: Summits, Keynotes and Workshops

10th Anniversary Edition: Summits, Keynote Speakers and Specials

From November 19-21, 2019, the 10th Clash of Realities Conference will be held at the Cologne Game Lab. To mark its anniversary, the international research conference is expanding its program with two specials. The European Theatre Ensemble G.I.F.T. will perform its latest play „Momentum Nostrum“ that interactively engages the audience. During the conference, we will also host the touring exhibition „Games Culture in Germany. 20 Milestones“ by the Computerspielemuseum, presenting characteristics of the German games industry and embedding them in international developments, so visitors get an impression of the global evolution of games.

In 2006, Clash of Realities began as a conference focusing on media-pedagogical issues, creating a forum for the transfer of knowledge from research to politics and media. Over the years, it was opened thematically by adding pillars like Game Studies, Game Development and Film & Games, turning it into how it stands today: a place where theory and practice come together to enrich each other and establish an opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue. This year, we are happy to welcome more than 60 renowned international experts from the academia, science and research, economics, politics and the game industry.

„Momentum Nostrum“
by G.I.F.T. theatre ensemble“Momentum Nostrum“ is an absurd, overdrawn fairground event with a master of ceremonies leading through the evening on a fair. In the course of the play, this character is unmasked as a figure or instance that plays power games. Almost inevitably, the question arises: Why do we actually „play“ war? And why does everyone, including the audience, play along? Or will the audience be able to give the spectacle another twist through interaction?
