Head of Studies for the Bachelor in Animation Program

The Animation Workshop (TAW) is a unique, international educational institution, situated in Viborg, Demark. For many years, the school has been a key driver in the development of animation, graphic storytelling and games in Denmark. TAW is now looking to hire a new Head of Studies, who can strengthen the development of our state-of-the-art education for our talented students from all over the world.

Our Head of Studies must be pedagogical minded and able to set the tone for the culture, leading the staff and empowering the students as individuals as well as cultivating their professional collaborative skills.
Educational Development, Leadership through listening
As Head of Studies, you will be responsible for the daily management and quality assurance of the Bachelor in Animation, as well as the ongoing development of the program, in close dialogue with the industry and other relevant stakeholders, such as the guest teachers, internship studios, graduates and the student body.
You will be part of the leadership group of The Animation Workshop, setting the common strategy and collaborating internally with the Bachelor in Graphic Storytelling program, as well as the departments of Talent & Skills and Research & Development. Furthermore, you will be a part of the educational leadership group of the Storytelling, Design and Business Faculty of VIA University College.
Your tasks will include:
 Managing and supervising the coordination, teaching and administration staff, as well as the visiting staff
 Developing of the Character Animation and CG Arts curriculum and updating the study program
 Responsibility for yearly budgets and accounts
 Quality assurance; reporting, monitoring trends and collecting and processing of input through relevant surveys and evaluations (teaching and internship evaluations, business and graduate surveys and more)
 Teaching – subjects may include Production, Animation History, Film Culture Studies, Project Supervision, Entrepreneurship, Collaboration and Communication
 Overseeing admissions – overall responsible for the education’s recruitment strategy, portfolio requirements, admissions tests and selection criteria
 Set the PR strategy for the department, promoting the education and the students’ productions
Your profile

We are looking for a candidate with experience in animation, leadership, management and pedagogics who transmits empathy, discipline and joy in their work. You possess an international outlook and ability to cultivate the program’s network of guest teachers and partner schools. Above all, you are engaging with our ambitious and talented students. When selecting our new head of studies, we will look for a candidate who:

 has a relevant educational background, and preferably also experience from a leadership position
 has insight and experience in the business areas which our educations target
 is fluent in English both spoken and written, and preferably in Danish as well
 is empathic and approachable
 is organized, and solution oriented
 is able to collaborate well and can communicate a common vision across various categories of staff and stakeholders.

About The Animation Workshop (VIA University College):
The Bachelor in Animation is located at The Animation Workshop, an educational institution and knowledge center placed in the organizational unit Storytelling, Design & Business in VIA University College. The Animation Workshop is an international creative environment for students, artists and entrepreneurs within the professional area of animation, comics and new media in the old buildings of Viborg’s former barracks. Using the methods of deep democracy, it is our goal to forge a dynamic environment, which is in continuous development, based on the changes in the industry and the interest of the current populace.
About the program
The Bachelor in Animation is a 3½-year program with specializations in Character Animation and CG Arts. The program is based on current industry practices and techniques. Students work through production orientated assignments, within the subject areas of storytelling, design, animation, CG arts, production methods, culture and communication; ultimately, leading the students to define their career goals independently for their Bachelor Project.

Salary and terms of employment:
The position is a permanent, full time position
The place of work is Kasernevej 5, 8800 Viborg.
Salary and terms of employment according to salary and employment conditions are determined in accordance with existing collective agreements incl. pension contributions.
Start date preferably December 1st 2020
